A REAL President of the USA

...would have spoken very differently than B.O. did.  He would have lauded the vast numbers of people who have let their thoughts and opinions on his health care ideas be known in no uncertain terms.  He would have said, "I can see, from the response of a majority of the citizens of this great nation, that I have been on the wrong track in terms of health care reform.  Obviously, the people feel strongly about this issue, and they have every right to expect me to do their bidding.  Therefore, I am calling a complete halt to any plans for health care reform at this time and dealing with more urgent matters, or should I say URGENT matters, since the health care issue is a manufactured issue with absolutely NO urgency whatsoever.  I know that it is the American PEOPLE who have made this country great, with their independence, creativity, freedom and ambition, and far be it from me to try to strangle all that AMERICAN spirit by making them all dependent on a bloated, inefficient, and, yes, CORRUPT government.  I don't know what I was thinking (head slap, like on the V8 commercials)!  Well, I've learned my lesson, and I bow to the will of the people I am supposed to serve.
"And while I'm at it, I've decided to rethink my highly unpopular positions on some other lefty favorites, like late term abortion and nationalizing EVERYTHING from the banks to the auto industry.  It's pretty apparent that none of what I've cooked up so far has worked, and my wacky ideas have, in fact, made everything worse.  SO once again, I'm listening to the American people, and I am reversing my immoral, ignorant, know-nothing plans and stopping the bleeding of money that we don't have into black holes that do not benefit from the imaginary money anyway.  I've decided maybe I WASN'T the one we were all waiting for, and plan to fade into the background accordingly.  No more B.O. loony left.  From now on, I will stifle my Marxist tendencies and try to act like a PRESIDENT OF A FREE COUNTRY, instead of a dictator in some 3rd world communist country.
"Since it has come to my attention that a majority of Americans identify themselves as conservative, rather than liberal--who'da thunk it?--I have decided to adhere to the capitalist, conservative, Judeo-Christian principles and values that made this the greatest country ever to exist on the planet.  I have decided to stop apologizing for imaginary wrongs done by America, and stop pretending that there is another country or culture ANYWHERE that has ever come close to being the shining light that this country is and has been.  I have decided to stop bowing to dictators from repressive, psychotic and evil societies, whether they have tons of oil or not.  I have decided to actually BECOME a Christian, and give up the ridiculous singing of praises of islam, a religion not of peace, but of destruction, hate, and torture.  I plan to support Israel to the fullest extent possible, and to tell Bibi to 'go for it' in both building settlements and dropping the big one on Iran's nuke facilities.
"In short, I'm a new man!  I have woken up to the realities of this country and the rest of the world.  I have come to realize that I am a product of Affirmative Action, and a woefully unqualified one at that, when it comes to being the president of the greatest country on earth.  I plan to listen to the American people on every issue, and to tell Pelosi and Reid to knock off the crazy socialist babble.  Apparently, the USA isn't interested in becoming Europe or Canada!  Imagine that!
"While I'm at it, I've decided to put the kabash on coddling illegal aliens and acting like we can't survive without them.  From now on, no freebies whatsoever for this bunch, and no jobs, or benefits of any kind.  Bring on e-verify!  Get 'em out of my country!"
That's what a REAL president of the USA would say.  But we don't have one of those, do we?  No, we have a would-be Marxist dictator with designs on our freedom, our money, our lives, our privacy, our safety and our Constitution.  And those designs are, right down the line, the absolute WRONG ideas for America.  Finally, most people have regained consciousness.  Hope it isn't too late.

Enjoying Ramadan, Are We?

I heard excerpts from Obama's laudatory, indeed, lovefest of a speech at the "celebration"  Ramadan dinner at the White House last night.  It seemed to go on, and on, and on, and along with Laura Ingraham I wondered what sort of celebration of Christianity's most important holiday, Easter, went on at the White House this spring.  (Cue crickets chirping.)  Apparently, it consisted of an Easter egg roll and the ceremonial reading of "Where the Wild Things Are," a traditional Easter text if there ever were one.  Anyone else a little creeped out?  I know I am.
What's going on here?  Well, other than the fact that Obama is a Muslim, I think our local talk show guy Barry Young is also correct:  he is trying to pacify the Wahabbi (sp?) sect of Islam so they won't blow us up.  The Saudi's have been trying this for years, and their reward is a suicide bomber blowing up one of their princes last week.  Yeah, that worked!  So now B.O. is going to try HIS hand at sucking up to them, because it worked so well.  Didn't it?  DIDN'T IT?
I don't know about you, but I am getting mighty sick and tired of his yammering on about how much the muslims contribute to America.  What a load of tripe.  If you consider honor killings, subjugation of women, dressing females up in tents and disrupting work places and schools with their ridiculous demands for prayer time, well then yes!  Those are some swell contributions!  As for the rest of the world, should we, dare we, bring up murdering and torturing women who show an ankle, anyone who disagrees with the demands of the religious police,  honor killings (that pesky one again), blowing up innocent people everywhere they can infiltrate, including fellow muslims, their vow to eliminate the Jewish State (and us!) by any means necessary? Their hatred of homosexuals (hate that too, don't think we should kill 'em), their sick, psychotic view of life and their love of death--gosh, do I need to go on?  DO I?  I hope Christians and Jews are paying close attention.  He is now about to beam his mug into every school in the country  in a blatant, naked attempt to indoctrinate the NEXT generation into his socialist/communist agenda and his opinion that America is a bad, bad country (not to mention ISRAEL) which needs to be remade into his dream world.  Utopia!  Health care for all (inferior, rationed, expensive-beyond-belief health NON-care), everyone thinking alike, acting alike, eating alike, and all paying homage to the Dear Leader, just like they did (if they wanted to live) with Mao, Hitler, and Stalin.  Yeah, that's what I want my grandkids to be exposed to.  I'm not sure if Christian schools will participate in this outrage, but if they do I hope my kids keep THEIR kids home that day.  They can read the Constitution or something.

MINNESOTA BLOCKHEADS GIVE US THE WRONG END OF CALIGULA'S HORSE

Back in the day, Children, when I studied Greek and Roman history, I learned of the crazy Roman Caligula, who made his horse a senator.  In the modern day, we have a whole state, called Minnesota, by whom we have acquired another--possibly the worst--senator, who is not a horse, but certainly would qualify as a part of a horse's anatomy. Thanks Minnesota!  I asked my husband for an explanation of this phenomenon, and he said that Minnesota is "full of blockheads."  I can't think of a single way to disagree.
So now we have a government completely out of control, run by loony lefties and Marxist morons.  Once again, thanks Minnesota!  We will end up with an unqualified, dare I say downright, um, stupid Supreme Court justice, the largest tax increases in history to fund the biggest scams in history (global "climate change"), the largest debt in history, an attempt to ram socialized medicine through before anyone has a chance to figure out what it really means (I believe it was Mark Levin who declared this a war on seniors, and it most definitely will be), and unprecedented unemployment.  We already have a president who is cozying up to terrorists and abandoning Israel, who thinks he should make nice with Syria though he demands nothing from them, who apologizes for all sorts of imaginary wrongs committed by the United States of America, of which he is, tragically, president, and which he despises.
My, we are in a pickle, aren't we?  I just want to go on record as saying that I expect, if the debacle known as "health care reform" (a misnomer, if ever there were one) goes through, there will be rationing of health care beyond your wildest imagination.  Your doctor, Honey, doesn't want to work for the guv'mint.  They've made an unholy mess out of Medicare and will do likewise for the rest of the country, while kicking seniors and chronically ill people to the curb in the name of "lowering costs" and "covering everyone."  Trouble is, this sham of a bill won't do either, and Obama is once again lying through his teeth and assuming he can still charm the pants off the dummies in the country.  As a nurse, I am dismayed at the tilt to the left that I am seeing in my nursing magazines and online journals.  Those who are pushing for "reform" are talking up "focusing on preventive care," and let me tell you what that means.  That means, WE (the government) will tell you how to live, what to eat, how much exercise you must do, what you can drink, and what treatments we WON'T let you have if you don't behave.  If you smoke, and you get cancer, you were naughty, and Nanny Government is going to send you to your room without supper.  And without chemo. Don't mess with Big Brother.  Nurses should be fighting this travesty with every weapon they have, as should doctors, hospitals, drug companies and, for Heaven's sake, PATIENTS!  That's YOU people, and you better get going before the wimpy Republicans cave and the supposedly moderate Democrats do too.  If you are in the district of either of those entities, call, fax, e-mail and go visit and make your voices heard.  Otherwise, get ready for the culmination of the biggest government power grab in history.  It won't be pretty.
Heard Obama talking today about the government deciding whether doctors are doing their jobs adequately, and paying (or not paying) accordingly.  So some bureaucrat with zero medical knowledge or expertise wants to tell actual doctors how to treat patients and deny them payment if said doctors do not toe the mark.  DO YOU KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS?
If we can hold them off for another year or so and get rid of some of the biggest loons in Congress (I fear Minnesota's horse's a$$ will not be up for re-election then, though I can pray I guess) before we are stuck with this (non)health care disaster, we might have a ghost of a chance to save at least one part of this once-great country.  The reason over 80% of Americans are satisfied with their health care (the latest polls state) is that we have the BEST health care system in the world.  No one is unable to get care, whether or not he or she has insurance.  If we go to nationalized health care, people will die in huge numbers as a DIRECT result of it.  Either stop it, or you damn well better stay healthy.
America, wake up, wise up, speak up.

CLASSLESS, SOULLESS, GODLESS...AND CLUELESS

Don't you think that those four adjectives just about sum up the current president of the United States?  As each day goes by, I am constantly astounded and dismayed at his incompetence, his naivete, his dishonestly, his inability to make a single rational decision and then stick with it, his profound ignorance when dealing with monsters such as Chavez or the Saudis, his complete cave-in to the far, far left, his obviously false claim of being a Christian, his out-of-control narcissistic psychopathology.  It is more than worrisome--it may portend the death of America as we know it.  Or knew it.  What a disgrace to have ended up with THIS as a (non)leader.
Almost more than my utter disdain for this pea-brained pretender is my great disdain for the lemmings who voted him in.  That so many American voters could have become so stupid in only a generation or two is discouraging beyond words.  As Dennis Prager has pointed out,  the two main differences between the current generation and past generations are:  more people have gone to college, or are going to college, than at any time in history, and TV.  And thus we have the explanation for the dumbed down people who voted for a guy with no experience, no accomplishments beyond what affirmative action could supply, no prior jobs, no knowlege of history, global politics, health care realities or human nature, no respect for life or liberty and no clue what he is doing. And unseemly friends in low places. Unfortunately, he is also a guy who is so enamored of his brilliance that he thinks he has only to smile or squeeze someone's hand and that person is his forever.  He's the king of the world!  He's a legend, as Clint Eastwood once said, in his own mind.  Frightening and sickening.    Of course I do keep the door open to the idea that ACORN and similar "community organizations" finally pulled off what they tried so hard to pull off in 2000 and actually stole the election.  I would almost rather think that than know  there are truly that many dunderheads out there with the right to vote.
I don't want to hear any blather about buyers' remorse.  It's too late.  You idiots--Catholics, college students, teen-age goofballs (no one under 21 should be able to vote unless he or she is in the military or has been working since high school and NOT going to college), sappy left-wing women (and "men"), who love convicted murderers but hate unborn babies--none of you or anyone else who voted for this train wreck has ANY room to complain.  You didn't bother to investigate him, and you fell for a bunch of gaggingly vapid words on a teleprompter read by, but not written by, this puppet.  Wonder who is pulling his strings?  The far left loons with money.  YOU figure it out.  On the other hand, if you voted for him and DON'T have buyers' remorse, you are hopelessly, hideously anti-American, and you don't deserve this country or its bounty, you don't deserve its military protecting you (but not for long!), you certainly don't deserve any of MY money, and I really, really want you to go live in Europe or Iran or California (as soon as it becomes its own country) and see how things go for you.  You are responsible for the death of America, and the world will be poorer for it.
No class--crass, ignorant, bowing to dictators and disrespecting western leaders, disrespecting our mililtary and all they do for us. No soul--you can't have a soul and not want to protect the innocent souls about to be born, or already born, but unwanted.  No God--I am surprised that his tongue doesn't catch fire when he asserts "...as a Christian."  He is so, so NOT.  There is nothing Christian about him.  Muslim, atheist, satanist, maybe--but not Christian.  And clueless?  No need to explain that one.  He is showing us every hour of every day and every time he opens his mouth.  Disgraceful.

Oh, Amber, I Wish You Could Have Seen It!

My Sweet Amber, you won't read this for quite a while, for you are only ten and some of what will be in here is not for ten-year-olds to be exposed to.  Of course, if you     went to public school, some of it would be in the curriculum!  Thank God you don't.

You are a wonderful granddaughter, and I had so hoped that you and your sister and cousins (and your new brother or sister who will be here in July) would grow up in the America I grew up in and to a slightly lesser extent that your mom and aunts grew up in. It was quite something. I'm not sure there has ever been a country on earth that was more beloved--with good reason--by her citizens than ours.  We came from such amazing circumstances and our founders were such amazing people.  They came here determined to be FREE, and they were willing to give up everything, even their lives, to secure that freedom for future generations.  And by 2009, it was all lost, and their sacrifice was for naught.

I can tell you, Darling, that it was a wonderful country to grow up in. My grandparents and parents lived through the Depression and came out just as strong, determined, and grateful--yes, grateful--as they were before it hit.  No one demanded that the government take over their lives and fix everything.  What the government did try was a smaller version of what this disaster of a government is doing now--grow the government and spend a fortune, which prolonged the depression.  In our case, I fear we will never get out from under the weight of this gigantic, utterly wasteful disgrace being perpetrated on us and you.  And your children and probably your grandchildren.

What made our country so great, Amber, was both our love of freedom and our Judeo-Christian values.  It used to be that the majority of the country embraced and tried to live those values.  But as Dennis Prager pointed out this week, Judeo-Christian Conservative values go against human nature.  Liberal values cater to the baser aspects of that nature.  Liberals do not wish to grow up, be responsible, be independent.  They don't want the stress of taking care of themselves and working hard to obtain whatever they may want or need in their lives. The CERTAINLY don't want to follow the Commandments. That requires effort and moral fiber, and a belief in God and that man is supposed to aspire to something higher than that baser nature of theirs.

They think big, bureaucratic government should be their daddy.  Fix me, save me, feed me, shelter me, give me, GIVE ME.  Oh, and do it all on someone ELSE'S dime.  As you know, God expects His people to work and take care of themselves and their families and to also help those in need.  As Conservatives, we wish to decide for ourselves which charities and causes we will support, according to our abilities and preferences.  We value freedom over government control and intervention.  We prefer to keep more of the money we earn, and spend it as we please.  FREEDOM.  Once the government becomes as big as it is now--and it is getting bigger--it is a recipe for disaster.  The astonishing thing about this is that history has shown what a disaster big government, big spending, big taxation and big, bloated, bureacrats with an insatiable thirst to spend other people's money is.  But too many people don't bother to learn that history, nor to investigate BEFORE the deed is done what these parasites are up to. I realize that our history is not taught in public school anymore, except in rare instances.  That's no excuse.  People need to be on top of what their government is trying to do to them, and stop it.  Half the country didn't do that, and we now have an unspeakably incompetent, immoral, immature, narcissist as president and a congress full of arrogant, ignorant, self-serving dimwits.  And they are all, apparently, Marxists to boot.  Half of America is taking this country to its demise.

But I'll tell you Amber, it was a grand country to live in, back then, and so many, many people looked to us as a haven from the tyranny and stifling of freedom that they experienced in their home countries, and they came here (they used to come legally) to live the American dream along with us.  Your grandfather was one of them.  He came at 18, looked around and loved what he saw.  So he worked, learned English, put himself through college and became a productive, hard-working AMERICAN.  Our country has always welcomed immigrants who wished to be AMERICANS.  And in the old days, they all did.  Now, many of them are illegal and couldn't care less about becoming Americans.  Like the leftists who court them, they want the government to be their daddy too.  Give me, give me, give me.  And the lefties will do it--out of our pockets of course--because that is how they buy votes.  When they aren't ACORNING around committing voter fraud.  Yes, it is a sad, sad day for the United States of America.  And for me, because I wanted so much for you to have what I had.

Back in the day, moms took care of their own kids.  Like yours does!  Grandmas helped, like I do.  Aunts too.  Family was mom and dad and kids.  No one would have imagined that someday the left would push to destroy that family unit and turn it into something deviant and pathetic.  Two men or two women should marry each other?  Right. The left wants to blur the line between men and women to the point of essentially obliterating it, just so some freak can go on Oprah and claim to be a "pregnant man."  Of course my Amber knows better.  Men cannot be pregnant, ever, but they CAN be freaks.  However, in the past that was unacceptable and frowned upon by society.  Now it is cause for celebration on the part of the fellow freaks who are so warmly embraced by our truly disgraceful mainstream media.

So, Darling, as I apologized to your great-grandfather not long ago on this blog, I must now apologize to you.  In a way, that's so much worse. My grandpa is gone and at peace, and if there is any justice he is unable to see what has become of his beloved country from his comfy cloud in Heaven.  I hope he can see you, for that would bring him such joy.  He had brown eyes too, and I can just see him gazing into yours and smiling. He'd have loved you so much, as he did me.  But he would be so, so sad at this latest blow to his country.  He would wish for it to somehow turn around before it has the negative impact on you and your siblings and cousins that I am so afraid of.

I AM sorry, Amber.  I wish I could have preserved my America for you.  You have such a good heart and such a dear soul, and you have learned the real history of America and how the love of God can be pure joy in your life. You appreciate your country for what it was, and I am so sorry that it is no longer that way.  Freedom has been throttled by these good-for-nothing democrats and turncoat republicans.  They are beneath contempt, and I spit on them all, along with their America-hating, Muslim-loving "leader."  You deserve so much better.  In 2010, I'll do my best to get rid of these vermin, if we still have the power.  We may not, and if we don't, I want you to know that it wasn't for lack of trying.  Once a country's people decide to give up their freedom for (false) security, it is hard to go back.  Hard to make adults out of overgrown crybabies.  Hard to convince people, though it is as pure a truth as I know, that being GOOD, and being FREE, and being GRATEFUL, and working hard are the keys to contentment and happiness.  I know you know it at ten far better than half the country ever will.  We had the best country that has ever existed on this planet, and it didn't last nearly long enough.  I hope you will pray for America, and for Israel, our only ally in the middle east and the foundation of our values and our faith.  The left will also try to abandon Israel, and as it goes, so do we go.

Mind you, I am not giving up just yet.  I will still pray that it isn't too late to save our country, but if it is, I also want you to know that in the greater scheme of things, you have been and will always be the joy of my life.  You and the rest of my grandchildren are all gifts from God, as are your mothers and your grandfather.  I am truly blessed, but I'm not naive enough to think that my government is not trying to ruin every single thing about America that was good and right.  So once again Darlin,' sorry, God bless you and always remember that you are a good American, and THAT is something to treasure.  Love, Gami

P.S. With the new health non-care plan, your Gami might just be a little too costly for the guv'mint to keep around, so you might also pray for my good health.  If they have their way, I won't be able to be treated for ANYTHING more exotic than a cold.  :)  Chin up though Darlin,' I'm a pretty tough grandma with no plans for an untimely exit.  Gotta be around to see these clowns get their comeuppance, which MY grandmother always promised would happen to swine.  Love you!

Build a Smarter Country? HA!

Just saw an IBM commercial while overdosing on the pre-pre-game Super Bowl shows (Go Cards), and I'm asking myself this question:  How are we going to be SMARTER as a country, given our dumbed-down president with his $$$ porkfest pushing for "global warming research,"         while the planet has been cooling for the last decade?  How are we going to be smarter with the dumbing down of our public school students,      being taught political ideology and junk science instead of actual FACTS they can use?  How are we going to be smarter when our universities      are having to provide remedial math, reading and writing for freshmen who have been subjected to that political agenda rather than to classic     literature, REAL math, spelling (the teachers can't spell either), phonics in the early grades, REAL history (not revisionist crap), and critical           thinking.  Does this sound like we are becoming smarter?
At least in Christian schools one is more likely to find the above subjects being taught instead of left-wing ideology.  Not all Christian schools mind you, for some have also been taken over by leftists, as have many of our churches.  It's a mystery to me, but there you have it.
We have to put a stop to this global warming/climate change nonsense that threatens to stifle the truth and cost us billions upon billions of taxpayer dollars.  We might as well flush them down a low-flow toilet.  EVERYONE, contact your Congress people and give them the word: defeat that piece of garbage they like to call a "stimulus," and also let them know that you know perfectly well that birds gotta fly and fish gotta swim, dogs gotta bark,  cats gotta purr, climates change and  Democrats waste money (RINOs have to take the heat for that too). And there is NOTHING humans can do about any of it EXCEPT the wasting money part.

P.S. Once again, the mysterious spaces appear in this post.  They aren't in the original version I hit "publish" for.  Very strange.  My apologies for the spacing, though I didn't do it.  What's up Townhall??

My Head is Going to EXPLODE!

...if I hear one more cliche, platitude, bumper sticker, blob of pablum, pap--well, you get my point--about this joke of a president you loons   elected.  Isn't it obvious that Mr. Hope 'n Change is hell bent on socializing America before we've had our morning coffee on Day One?  Isn't it     obvious that he is so far left he can barely stand up?  He is busy wielding his little pen and signing executive orders like there's no                       tomorrow (there may not be), and nothing he has done is of any benefit to the country at all.  Spend tax money for abortions OVERSEAS?  Bring a bunch of unholy terrorists to reside in comfort right under our noses?  Is this really what you all wanted, you who swooned and salivated and   cried tears of joy and blathered to the media about Obama paying for your gas and your mortgage?

The man is taking us to hell in a handbasket, increasing the deficit to hand out more money to people who don't deserve it when we DON'T EVEN HAVE IT!   Did you ALL go to public school?  Because I can't think of another reason for this rampant stupidity and irresponsible behavior.  We were better than this, America.  We thought for ourselves, worked for ourselves and our families, didn't want the government taking care of us or telling us what to do, say, think, LISTEN TO, eat, drink, shoot or care about.  We could make our own decisions.  We could decide for ourselves what to do with our own money.  WHAT HAPPENED?  Never mind, I know what happened.

Here's the thing:  my head IS going to explode but unfortunately for me, as an older white (typical, no doubt) person, once we have the Great O's socialized medicine, oh gosh--I will become expendable!  You see, we will suddenly be unable to afford much in the way of health care, since we are trying to be all things to all people (even illegal aliens), and SOMEONE has to shoved overboard so that someone ELSE can have a medical procedure, drug, or treatment that costs a lot of money!  Naturally, the older folks will be the first ones to be considered superfluous.  Who needs a bunch of old codgers and coots who don't work anymore and are sucking that non-existent Social Security dry?  Let 'em eat aspirin and shut the hell up.

You idiots on the left who are so enamored of socialized medicine should check out Great Britain and their "Medical Board," (something Obama wants to institute), the ghouls who decide who should live and who should die based on how much their treatment for any given illness might cost--and whether it's "worth it" to save their lives.  It would be chilling, don't you think, to have the guv'mint say, "Sorry Charlie, a year of your life is only worth this much, and your treatment costs THIS much.  So start planning your funeral and don't let the casket lid hit you in the arse on the way out."  We have the BEST medical care in the world, and even people without health insurance can still receive treatment here.  People WITH the damn government health care in other countries CAN'T--and because Europe and Canada are not really replacing themselves by having children (which would require them to act like grown-ups and stop sucking on the tax teat), they are finding it harder and harder to provide decent, basic health care to the whiny babies they've turned their citizens into by being, altogether now, SOCIALISTS--just like your fearless leader wants US to be!  Can you grasp what I am saying?

It is your fault that my head is going to explode, you lefties and that pathetic bunch of droolers in the MSM, along with Obama and his childish, uninformed, petulant, pouty, narcissistic, er, um, aaaaaand downright stupid antics and goofy stutterings that pass for "eloquent" with an increasingly NON-eloquent press and lefty loons.  I am going to go take my $4 a month blood pressure medication now.  Pretty affordable, eh? If I die, it's on YOUR heads. Me, and all those unborn babies you are responsible for killing.  Sheesh.

P.S. I did not leave that giant space between "no"  and "tomorrow" and it only shows up on the published post.  Perhaps I should fill it in with an unprintable word??

Hey, King of the World: LISTEN UP!

I didn't listen to the speech, but I did read parts of it here on TownHall.  It does seem that Obama sees himself as a world leader (that's rich!) rather than an American president.  But I think he is woefully lacking in any concept of what America actually is, and therefore he has decided that HE should be ONE to dictate how it WILL be.  Not so fast, Slick.
Does he think that "equality" is what America is all about? Let me tell you, Mr. Obama, that that is not the case.  Our Founders did not profess their willingness to die for "equality."  They came here and dedicated themselves, risked everything they had--even their lives and those of their families--for one ideal:  FREEDOM.  That statue in New York Harbor is not "Lady Equality."  It is Lady Liberty.  Freedom is the core value of America, because we believe that our CREATOR (not you) has bestowed on us certain rights, and that we must be free to exercise those rights.  Striving for equality means curtailing the freedom of the population so that the government can artifcially manipulate the economic situation of the country.  You know, that "redistribution" thing.  No, no, and NO.
Does he think that immigrants--my husband, for one--came here to pursue "equality?"  They came here to have the freedom to work hard, use their brains and skills, and to pursue HAPPINESS.  That's PURSUE, not have the government try to give it to them.  Governments can't give people happiness, they can only allow the people the freedom to strive for it on their own--or not.  In the real world that has been America, of course not everyone has the same things as everyone else.  People are all different, with different gifts, talents, ambitions, needs, wants and levels of intelligence and education.  That's real life!  The best, the very best part of being an American is that if you live in less than ideal circumstances, you have the freedom to do something to change that, within only the bounds of your own limitations.  And here's the thing: people do have limitations.  The government cannot alleviate differences in abilites and intelligence, and certainly not in motivation.  In fact, government might be the single best way to kill motivation.  If it keeps telling the citizens (and the illegals!) that it will take care of them, people just might lose the desire to make it on their own.  Can any of you college students think of any countries where that's happened?  Hmm?  Do you know what type of government those countries might have had?
What do you want for us, you who would be king?  Do you want us to all be the same?  Dress the same, drive the same car, eat the same food, make the same amount of money and spend it the same way, THINK the same?  That's not us, that's China.  Well, without the car.  In MY country, there are rich people, poor people, people in between in all sorts of circumstances.  That is freedom.  Try your best, use your talents and brains, take care of yourself and your family, treasure the freedom that men fought and died for, read the ACTUAL history of the founding of this, the greatest country ever to exist on this planet (yes I know, it isn't perfect), and stop thinking of the government as the nanny, the daddy, the money tree, the be-all and end-all.  It isn't.  Reagan was right, it IS the problem.  If you want to live in a socialist world, go live where my in-laws do--in Europe.  See how "equal" you'll be there.  We don't really want to have nothing, equally, because the government took it all so it could be "redistributed."  The only fix for America is AMERICA--the people.  If they lose their will to BE Americans and do what Americans have always done, then we are truly lost.
The majority of Americans don't care about the "world," what it thinks of us, what it wants from us.  We'd like LESS to do with the rest of the world, not more.  We have no apologies to make for anything.  I personally would like to stop all foreign aid to everyone but Israel.  And that 50 billion President Bush earmarked for AIDS in Africa--I'd like it back, every dime.  It should be up to individuals to be charitable, not the government.  Americans can decide for themselves what to donate their hard-earned money for.  Government needs to stay out of it and let us keep what we earn.  Get rid of the dead weight--the Department if Education comes to mind-- and go back to fiscal conservatism and individual responsibility and pride.
None of which sounds like Obama's intentions, does it?  Mr. World needs to be hauled back to reality and told in no uncertain terms that FREEDOM is America, not equality.  Let us do what we do best:  work, earn, and decide for ourselves with whom we will share.  Any redistributing that needs doing, we'll do it ourselves, thank you.  Think he'll ever get it?  He and his worshippers?  Bets?

P.S. The only thing we need to be all the same on:  our common language.  That would be English.

Saying Good-bye to America

As my America falls to the far left, I wish to state that I WAS HERE for what the left says NEVER existed in the United States.  I WAS HERE, so you will have a hard time convincing me ,especially you young, naive, ignorant, namby pamby socialist/communist "students," that I wasn't.  And HERE, Children, is how it USED to be.
I was here when my parents and grandparents discussed the Great Depression and how hard it was--how ashamed they'd have been to have had to go "on the dole," as it was derisively called then, how each of them coped and kept the faith in America and its core values and prinicples.  My grandfather went to work painting houses when the newspaper for which he'd been the business manager closed down.  My mother, a schoolteacher by profession, worked at Lerner's to put her brother through college while waiting for a teaching job.  My dad put himself through college (with not a DIME of government help, though he was from a poor farming family) and joined the Air Force. My grandmother made her four children's clothes from scratch and could stretch a food budget to last a week instead of a day.  All my relatives were staunch American capitalists and they knew that if they could keep those principles going, eventually things would turn around.  They were right.
Now we not only have more and more people, including illegal aliens, on the dole, but wanting more, more, more from the guv'mint (read ME) and to be protected from their own bad decisions and ridiculous debts.  Because of the low quality of public education in the past 30 or so years (thanks to the takeover of our schools by the far left educrats), the young people of today are far less educated after college than students were then after 8th grade.  If you could see the curriculum back then as compared to now, you would be appalled, if you haven't been brainwashed by the current left-wing edcucational regime.
I was here when parents were married, one man and one woman, and the husband worked and the wife took care of her own children!  Yes!  That was the NORM, and though my mother loved teaching, she would not have for one nanosecond considered hiring strangers to raise her babies.  She never regretted leaving teaching (to which she returned when we grew up) for us.  We were hers and my dad's priority, and thankfully that was still the case when I had my children.  I am an RN, but that job (which I loved) paled in comparison to the thrill of being with my kids (even on days when things were downright crazy) and watching them grow and develop.  When I was growing up, single motherhood was a disgrace to be avoided and a man expecting his wife to be a breadwinner would have been appalling.  Men had pride in their ability to provide for their families.  Moms were considered essential, especially for babies, but also for kids.  I lived the Leave it to Beaver life, and so did most of my friends and family.  It DID exist and it was pretty fine.
I was here when individualism and ambition to do well were the American way.  I was here when freedom was paramount, not equality.  The one thing we had here that very few others in the world had was freedom to strive to be the best you could be, no matter the outcome.  Equality of OPPORTUNITY is the American dream, not equality of OUTCOME.  The outcome was what one made it to be.  Hard work, self-control, goals, values (Judeo-Christian), morality were all important--vital even--to this country.  They are what made us great.  Their loss is what will destroy us.
I was here when people emigrated to the United States to become Americans.  Not to bring their own cultures here and expect us to honor them and adapt to them.  Multiculturalism is NOT what made us great.  It IS what will help bring us down.  We must have an AMERICAN identity.  A common belief system, a common language (just one, Children), a common philosophy of what our society stands for.   I was here when we had that.
I was here when people were responsible for their own behavior and there were consequences to that behavior.  I was here before we started living our lives to please lawyers.  To avoid lawsuits.  To give criminals the benefit of the doubt and victims the shaft.  Before everything got turned inside out and upside down.  When the death penalty meant you were gone in a year.  Consequences. Now consequences for bad behavior, even criminal behavior, are rewarded by the government with bailouts, good money after bad, and 20 years on death row doing drugs and having sex and even producing offspring.  My, as the saying goes, times have changed!
So now we have--what?  Who knows what this election result will bring?  The most amazing thing to me is how, in my lifetime, the number of truly stupid people has increased to this point.  I know that the public school system and the far left wing college environment has contributed, but when did parents stop teaching their children about America and what it is and has been?  Oh, right.  When they stopped raising their own kids and pushed selfishness to limits no previous generation could have imagined.  As I wrote in a previous post to my grandpa, my apologies to those generations and to my grandchildren for not being able to stop this train.  I mourn for the United States I grew up in and love, and so wanted to keep for my grandbabies and their grandbabies.  If this is good-bye, and I fear it is, the world has lost forever that shining city on a hill, the beacon of hope (no, not THAT hope) and the refuge for all who want to be grown up, independent, and FREE.

Smackdown at Liebau's

I left a comment on the thread of a column on the kind of "hope" that the Obamaniacs were "hoping for" in regard to the pro-life issue, by Carol Platt Liebau.  There was quite a brouhaha going on with someone called "Ivan," who apparently believes that there are no "babies" in women's wombs, only blobs of protoplasm or some such term, which he compared to "tumors and warts."  I thought I would expound on this theory of his, and perhaps I shall attempt to disabuse this Ivan fellow, and any of you with similar ideas, of his notion that there are only globs of tissue and blobs of protoplasm--"pre-conscious" is a term I think he used--in a woman's body.
I,  Dear Readers, am a former Labor and Delivery Nurse, a mom and a grandma.  I have seen many an ultrasound in which Ivan's alleged blob of protoplasm is engaging in such disctinctly non-tumor-like activities as yawning, thumb-sucking, hiccuping, and grabbing his or her umbilical cord.  It has been known for ages that unborn babies hear, feel, sense the presence of foreign objects such as, oh, I don't know, coat hangers or knitting needles and shy away from them, sleep, wake, pee, swallow and of course kick and punch.  Ivan asserts that a baby is NOT a baby until such time as he or she enters the delivery room and takes a breath of air.  As I mentioned in my comment, the only change that occurs at that moment is that those dear little lungs are inflated.  Otherwise, this is the same baby who was a moment ago snug as a bug in a rug inside his mother's uterus.  He or she knows his or her mother's voice and can recognize music that was played while he or she (do tumors have reproductive organs?) was in utero. As a parent and grandparent myself, I have also seen first-hand that even a newborn will look toward his mother's voice and will even cry when she is out of the room for any length of time.  In the old days, the "experts" believed babies were practically insensate for the first few months of life.  As my mother pointed out to me many years ago, that was because the "experts" were in the lab all day and their wives were home watching the babies relate to them, smile at them, and demonstrate their own unique personalities within hours of birth.
I just don't believe Ivan has children, though he claims to.  Would he not  have educated himself about the state of his unborn children, if he were at all interested in their lives?  For their lives started long before birth, as surely as they breathed upon delivery.  If he does have children, and if they are, as he claims, PROUD of his position that women have just as much right to scrape out a baby as they do a tumor, then I do fear for the future of our country even more than I already began to on Nov. 4.  You silly saps have elected a Marxist, anti-life, possibly/probably Muslim megalomaniac who would allow a full term, viable infant to die in a storage room rather than "burden" the people who are trying so hard to kill that infant.  What were you thinking, those of you who like to think of yourselves as Christian?
You can dissemble all you want, but you will never escape the facts.  Babies are babies inside the womb and outside the womb, and they can survive at earlier and earlier stages of development.  If you kill them, you are murdering a person, Ivan and his semantic circus notwithstanding.
If a woman wants a choice, she can choose not to have sex if she is unprepared for the consequences thereof. Sex is not a recreational activity, though Planned Non-Parenthood says it is.  It is an adult action, as I pointed out in my comment, and the consequences of such action should be paid by the participants, not by the innocent baby who is the result.  People are clamoring to adopt babies.  I am certain that it is reasonable to ask a woman to make up her mind that she doesn't want a baby before she is in her third trimester, or for that matter her second.  I am not naive enough to believe we will ever rid ourselves of abortion altogether, but at least let it happen, if it must, before the fetus is sensate.  Early, early on.  It is still sad, and awful, and hideous, but it is possible to know one is pregnant within a VERY short period of time after conception.  Make up your feeble mind immediately.  If you don't, too bad for you.  Have the baby, and give him or her up for adoption to a loving couple who will raise your little blob to be a fine citizen of our formerly great country.
There are some real pips out there, aren't there People?  Try to make sure you aren't one of them.  Let the babies live and thrive and be loved and cared for.  Face facts.  Grow up.  Be kind. Ours is a Judeo-Christian country for the best of reasons, and this is but one of them.  Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness should be guaranteed to our smallest and most helpless citizens too.  They HAVE no choice.

Dear Grandpa, Sorry About the Country...

Dear Grandpa, Uncle Vern and Uncle Jack,
Just wondering if you are all at peace eternally, or if you are spinning wildly in your graves at the turn your adopted country has taken.  I'm guessing the latter.
Now that we are about to possibly elect the first Muslim Communist as president of the United
States of America, I do feel the need to apologize to all my ancestors who chose this country for its magnificent values and for its freedom and opportunities.  Our founding fathers brought with them the firm belief that we had God-given rights and that they should fashion a Constitution that acknowledged those rights.  The government wasn't supposed to infringe on them, nor was it supposed to MAKE UP "rights" that were never mentioned nor intended.  We've come a long way, haven't we?  Toward bigger government, secularism, socialism, and now my personal favorite: Marxism redux.  As if it worked so splendidly before, all those times.  As if millions upon millions of people didn't die at its hands.
When your family came here from Scotland, I bet you were amazed at the bounty of America, even then.  Never has there been a MORE free country, with more opportunity and promise.  Of course, there were problems.  All have been dealt with.  Now we've created far worse problems by straying from the conservative principles that made us great.  We've let the left become too vocal and too entrenched in the mainstream media.  There is no pretense of fairness in the mainstream media, and even Fox News, which claims to be balanced, has to bend way over to give the left its due, simply because if it REALLY got its due, it would be banished to Europe where it belongs.
When you came here, there was a work ethic second to none.  You raised a family during the Great Depression, and the worst thing to you would have been having to go "on the dole."  When the newspaper for which you were the business manager shut down, you painted houses to support your four children.  Now we've imported all sorts of people who disdain our values and want a free lunch courtesy of the American taxpayer.  And we have some homegrown varieties of the same.  Instead of promoting hard work and ambition, the lefties who've taken over the Democrat party are promoting class envy and laziness.  That's Europe, not us.  Or at least it used to not be us.
I bet you are spinning over the change in your church too.  The Presbyterians have taken leave of their senses, or at least the leadership has.  Instead of blessing the Jews, as we were instructed to do by God, they are cursing them and fawning over the Palestinians.  There are a number of formerly mainstream Protestant churches who have fallen down similar holes.
As a child I seem to remember there was a bit of animosity among Protestants toward Catholics, until two of your grandchildren married two of them.  Everyone mellowed after that. You'd be happy to know that now it may be the Catholics, traditionally mostly Democrat, who will prevent our electing a Muslim Communist, because it turns out he is also a big proponent of infanticide and is unwilling to keep a baby born alive, after a botched abortion, alive!  Fancy that!  And he lies about it, or tries to, to boot.  I know how you'd feel about that.
You know I married a European whose family all still lives in Germany.  So I do have a handle on the differences between our societies.  And frankly, I have to come down on the side of traditional America.  It is rapidly disappearing, but I try to be hopeful we can bring it back, at least in part.  Starting with closing the borders to illegal, ungrateful, unhelpful and downright dangerous aliens.  Seems like a good place to start to me.
I sure miss you all.  You were men among men, not a wimpy metro-sexual among you.  You were men who could be counted on in a country that could be counted on, and was--by the whole world at times.  Personally, I don't think there has been nearly enough gratitude shown the United States by people whose a--es we saved, but then again we know the left is ungrateful, as all spoiled, immature brats generally are.
So Grandpa, I do apologize for the road the country is on at the moment.  I did my best to right it, sticking to my conservative principles and trying to reason with the loony left.  I raised three conservative kids and they are raising three, almost four, conservative grandkids.  I've discovered in my advancing age, though, that "reason" and "left" do not go together.  They are like pancakes with bacon instead of sausage, my mom--your daughter-- would say.  Mom was a little rigid on things that went together, but she knew gratitude and happiness did, and she sure recognized ingratitude when she saw it.  The left is awash in it, and aren't they just the unhappiest bunch you've ever seen?
Well, we'll try to keep the looming disaster from happening, but I can't promise anything.  Unfortunately, my parents' generation (the greatest one, according to Tom Brokaw), while nobly fighting a couple of wars and surviving the Depression, and making the most of what they had, were certainly not the greatest at parenting.  They were so happy to be able to offer their kids all the things they never had that they forgot to also TEACH them to be grateful, and independent, and hard-working, and to not expect anything from the government except national defense. I was lucky to be one of the exceptions to that trend, but many of my fellow baby boomers are the best educated yet dumbest, the owners of the most toys but the most ungrateful, the owners of the most material goods but the least blessed with a drop of common sense.  They have bought into, among other things, the feminist dogma of the man-haters, the global warming hoax, the PETA psychosis and the "all countries and societies are as good as all other countries and societies" mantra of the far, far, FAR left.  I know it's hard to believe how quickly this all happened.  I'm kind of glad you aren't here to see what has become of your beloved America, and if you CAN see any of it I sure hope it's filtered somehow.  I think MTV alone would have felled Grandma.
You all may have been the LAST great generation.  I am eternally grateful to have been your granddaughter.  Thank you for being a shining example of the people who came here for all the right reasons.  You met my husband before we were married, and I know you will be pleased to see that he also came here for the right reasons.  He also came legally, gratefully, and independently.  And he is a citizen of this country he fell in love with at eighteen.
Sorry, Grandpa, wish we could have kept the faith a little better, but we aren't giving up.  At least not unless the Muslim Communist actually gets elected.    Love, Jan

For Proud Liberal, Reality Bites

In my usual wordy way, I overshot the number of words allowed on a comment on one  of Star Parker's columns.  So I have to repeat it here, and I hope I remember at least some of what I wrote in the heat of the moment.  This is for you, Proud Liberal.
In the United States of America,  the term "traditional values" has always referred to Judeo-Christian values. Our founders brought them here, and they wanted to keep them.  After all, generations of humans embraced those values, and in America they built the best country that has ever existed on this planet.  Our laws are based on them.  Our values have made us who we are as a country.
Proud Liberal, you think Obama is going to be a peachy president because he knows the "reality" of people having differing opinions on...everything.  Governing by every individual's opinion of what should be is not governing at all.  And there we have anarchy.  Hardly ever works out well.  Our traditional values have stood the test of time, and cannot be thrown aside for the latest whim or new-age, feel-good philosophy.
I doubt that any conservative could top the lies told by liberals every time they open their mouths.  Because they lie, they assume everyone else does.  Proud Liberal is simply projecting his own behavior onto conservatives.  The "reality" of Obama is this: he is a Marxist,  he is not smart, he is not capable, he is not good, he is not Christian--the Muslims think he is one of them, and I think they are probably right--, he lies in every speech, he "changes" what he says depending on which group he is talking to, he is fluff with no substance. As Gertrude Stein famously said,  "There is no there, there."
Proud Liberal, you must grow up and face the actual reality of America.  Do you recall the phrase"E Pluribus Unum," found on our coins?  It means, "Out of Many, One."  It is, simply put, the American dream.  It means, if you come here from anywhere, we will embrace you--IF you want to be one of us.  America is unique in this quality.  The lurch toward multi-culturalism, diversity, and paying too close attention to every wacky, off-the-wall idea that makes its way into the public consciousness threatens our survival as a strong nation.
The whiny babies on the left want government to be their mama--and their sugar daddy--and if you want to know how that's working, look at Europe.  They'll be Muslim in a couple of decades, because they gave up their values, which were once somewhat similar to ours, for a secular selfishness.  Now they don't marry, don't reproduce, don't stand up for their countries, don't fight evil, don't insist that immigrants assimilate, and are descending more and more into depravity and sloth.
We really don't want that here.  John McCain said that it isn't the American way to envy the rich and want to take their money away from them.  The American way is to want to JOIN them, and to work hard and make it on our own.  Americans have always had common values, a common language, common goals: the Ten Commandments, English, and equal opportunity (NOT equal outcome) for all.  Those are the reasons so many have come here from everywhere else, to take advantage of all America has to offer.  YOU must face reality, Proud Liberal, and it is this: in our country at least, man is not the final authority.  God is.  That is how we want it to be. Over 80% of Americans say they believe in God--and that means the Judeo-Christian God who is the author of our values and morals, and from whom our blessings--and our RIGHTS--come. THAT is reality, and if for you it bites, for me it sings.

Reprieve from the Execution

I am reading a number of blog posts dealing with Obama and his infanticidal ways.  Good.  Let's make sure the country knows just what kind of being might be elected if we don't wake people up.  There is no logical reason to vote for Obama and that windbag Biden--how many times has he tried to run himself?  Always failed, but never got tired of hearing his own voice drone on about his favorite subject: him.  And is he going to try to call himself a Catholic?  He is pro-choice and running with a man who thinks killing babies already born in spite of efforts to destroy them is A-OK.
Even convicted murderers condemned to die, if they survive their execution, are not then bludgeoned to death or shot.  Or left in some closet with no food or water to die on their own.  Good grief.  I cannot believe I have to write this.  Where are the Christian, Catholic, and Jewish leaders, as well as congregants?  Can you honestly vote for this evil man and his equally evil wife? Because it's a sure thing you'll have them both running your life.  Biden is a joke, but he's a bad joke.  We have heard enough of his blathering over the long, LONG years of his Senate "career." None of us needs to hear one more inane word from him.  But you had all better be listening VERY closely to what comes out of Obama's mouth.  It is horrifying, when you can actually understand what he says.
We, the People, must reject this amoral party's platform of death, communist dogma, climate change crap, sky-high taxes, and the Big Nanny Government "taking care of" the masses and telling us how to live every facet of our lives.  One of the blogs mentioned the famous quote about how free societies don't last, because once the affluence comes, people become selfish and lazy and want more, more, more given to them--leading eventually to a totalitarian society.  I hope America proves to be the exception to the rule mentioned in that quote--that democracies last about 200 years, and then the cycle begins that leads to complete LOSS of freedom.
Give the babies a reprieve, give the United States of America a reprieve.  Go to the polls, and kick this disgraceful candidate to the curb.

"The Military is at War, America is at the Mall"...or the Olympics, Apparently

I think it is unseemly for President Bush to be at the Olympics, frolicking with the creepy Chinese president and beaming all over the place.  I don't know whose quote I used for my post title, but it is certainly true.  I've heard no mention of our military from the blatherers at the Olympics--granted, I'm not watching it all--and am I surprised?  Well, no, it's NBC after all, but it would have been a fine thing to hear President Bush say,  "I cannot in good conscience attend the Olympics in a country with the appalling human rights record that China has, nor can I even begin to find enjoyment in such frivolous pursuits when our brave men and women of the U.S. military are engaged in the dangerous and noble work of protecting our country from harm and trying to rid the world of terrorism."  Wouldn't that have been something?  Of course, it'd also be fine if he said, "Because of China's alarming attempts to build its military might on our dime, and its refusal to be accountable for all the harm it does its own citizens, as well as the harm it means to do us, we have decided not to buy another poisonous toy or cheap piece of crap from that country. Starting NOW."
Wake up America.  While our fight with the terrorists is easier to see, the fight with China may turn out to be infinitely more serious.  They are about to own us, if they don't already, and the first thing they want to do when they feel they can is to squash us like a big fat bug.  They'll have no qualms about it either, for they are truly "Godless communists," another quote whose author I can't remember, and as such have no moral compass to guide them.  They will do whatever it takes, and kill whoever gets in their way.  WE are funding their goals by buying their garbage and pretending it's just about "trade."  Shame on us, and by "us" I mean our government.  We have no real control over what they do, but we could shut down the switchboard again if we all got busy and called, e-mailed, wrote letters and faxed the do-nothing-useful-Congress and told them what we think and what we want.
I don't know why anyone would join our military, considering the lack of respect the media and our government, and about half the citizens, have for them.  I don't know why anyone would join the Border Patrol either, since one can go to prison for doing one's job.  But these amazing people still DO join, still DO want to defend and protect us, and perform their tasks with enthusiasm and grit.  You'd think the President of their country, and the cowardly media drones, could manage to pay a bit of homage to that.

America, Have You Forgotten? London, 9/11/2001

Keeping in mind that B. H. Obama wants to leave us defenseless, disarm us, and is unbelievably naive about the actual state of the world today, here is my story:
My husband and I went to London in September of 2001 for a nice relaxing vacation.  We were due to leave for the United States--home--on September 12.  On September 11, we were on a boat on the Thames, enjoying a leisurely cruise down the river.  We were below deck, and a woman with an instantly recognizable New York accent came down the stairs to ask if any of us were American.  Several of us were.  She said, "A plane has hit the World Trade Center."  Oh, we thought, how awful.  A terrible accident.  But then she said, "A second plane hit shortly after the first one."  We were stunned--it seemed that it had not been accidental after all.  But we didn't think, yet, "Our country has been attacked."  The boat took us back to shore, and we walked back to our hotel near Kings' Cross.  As we walked, we noticed people crowded around store windows with TVs.  But we didn't stop to see what they were watching.  It wasn't until we arrived at our hotel and turned on the TV in our room to the BBC that we realized: yes. The United States had been attacked.  I immediately tried to call our three daughters at home in Arizona.  But the lines were all busy, and they stayed that way.  We could not reach Delta Airlines to see if we could fly out the next day, but we were hearing that all planes were grounded.  Panic began to set in, yet it still seemed unreal.  Do you know when it finally sank in?  It was when I heard that Barbara Olson, a writer I knew of--I had read one of her books--was aboard one of the doomed flights, and that she had called her husband on her cell phone and asked him what she should do.  He knew, of course, that there was nothing she could do.  I kept trying to call home.  I knew my children must be frantic.  But we couldn't get through.
The next morning, still unable to contact Delta, we could not bear the thought of not being able to leave for home, and we took the limo to the airport anyway.  Our driver was from India.  He was as distressed as we were, and having overheard our talking about not being able to reach our daughters, he handed me his cell phone and told us to call them.  He said he had six brothers in New York and had talked to all of them.  "What's another call?" he asked.  I was able to reach my daughters and tell them that we were trying desperately to fly home, but that I didn't know if we could.  Of course, when we reached the airport we were informed we could not fly--all planes were grounded.  Our limo driver had offered to wait for us, knowing we were unlikely to be able to leave.  As he was driving us back to London, he handed me the phone again.  "You should call and tell them you won't be flying," he said.  Bless his heart, he then proceeded to take us to a hotel he knew of that we might be able to stay in.  We had checked out of our hotel already, and we couldn't afford to spend any more time there anyway.  The hotel he took us to did have a room.  I think we were the only English speaking people there, but at least we had a room.
Do you have any idea what we were thinking?  We wanted to go home in the worst way.  Our country was under assault, and we were stuck in a foreign country with no apparent way out.  But we were fortunate.  My husband was born in Germany, and his family still lives there.  He called Delta from our new hotel and asked if we could fly out of Frankfurt.  The Delta representative said we could, if we could get there.  We made a reservation for that Friday, I believe the 14th.  Now we only had to find out way to Frankfurt.
Enter the best brother-in-law in the history of the world.  My husband called his sister and her husband and told them that we needed to come to Germany in order to leave for home.  We would try to make our way to Ostende, Belgium, from London.  Should we take the train to Cologne from there, my husband asked?  No, they said.  Gerhard will pick you up.  Period.
And thus began our journey toward home.  We took a cab, a lovely HUGE cab, from our hotel to the Charing Cross Station.  We caught a train to Dover, and endured that trip with a very drunk, belligerant man.  But also on that trip were some ladies around our age.  They could tell we were American.  My husband said, "We're just trying to get home."  They looked at us with great sympathy.  "Well of course you are," they said.  In fact, NO ONE in Great Britain EVER gave us the feeling that what the Lefties are always telling us--that everyone hates us-- is true.  We never felt anything but respect and affection from the British, and the Scots in Edinburgh where we spent a wonderful day.  Dennis Prager is right. The world doesn't hate America, the Left of the world hates America.  The rest of them are smart enough to know us for what we really are.
In Dover we bought tickets for the Hovercraft to skim us across the English Channel to Ostende.  On the way we sat with another American couple who had been on their way home from a vacation in Greece.  Slightly less than halfway across the Atlantic, the pilot came on the intercom and said, "There is nothing wrong with the plane, but we must go to London."  That was all they knew until they landed and found out that America had been attacked.  They were fortunate to have friends in Belgium who would do for them what my husband's family did for us--take them in, and get them to Frankfurt to fly home.
My brother-in-law drove five hours in the pouring rain to pick us up.  We sat in a restaurant in Ostende, where the waiter spoke excellent English and offered us much care and sympathy, watching the rain and wondering how in the world we had ended up in such a fix, and how in the world we were so blessed as to have a brother-in-law like Gerhard.  It still seemed unreal, though we had seen the film of the WTC towers being destroyed a number of times, while still in London. On the Hovercraft we had read several newspaper articles about people from Great Britain who had been killed in the attack on the U.S.  We were all in this together, at that point in time at least.  We felt great kinship with the British and indeed with all of Europe.  My, that didn't last long.  But it was a very comforting feeling while it did last.
We were fortunate too in that we were able to see my mother-in-law and my husband's brother and his wife, who happened to be visiting by chance.  We saw our nephews too, and that was a treat.  It turned out to be the last time I was to see my mother-in-law, and it was a small positive in a hugely negative situation.
We flew home by way of Atlanta.  There was a huge delay in Frankfurt, for some of the crew who would have flown with us had been killed on the flights that were hijacked by the vermin who perpetrated the attacks.  The crew who eventually flew with us were volunteers, and they were our heroes.  Some were friends of the ones who had been killed, and they were devastated.  But they came to our rescue, knowing how much we wanted to touch American soil.  I don't even remember if we were still on Delta, or if some other airline brought us, finally, to Phoenix.  I only know that arriving in Atlanta, we were home already, we were in America.  Along the way we heard many stories from other Americans who had experienced the trauma in their own way.  One woman who had been on her way from Italy with her tiny dog was told, upon arrival in London, that the dog would have to be quarantined for two weeks.  She was nearly hysterical, convinced the dog would not survive.  Someone found a vet to certify that the dog could go ahead and fly.
In Frankfurt, a woman who was ahead of us in the third security check line dropped her passport between the stairs and the wall.  Her husband was ahead of her, about to board the plane.  She was frantic.  But the airport people grabbed a maintenance man and he retrieved her passport, and she was able to get on the plane.  And a word about security in Frankfurt.  The last time I had been to Germany was in 1989, and even then the airport security force carried M 16s or Uzis or some such impressive weapons.  All I can say is, YAY.  I never felt safer than I did there, with the Army walking around armed to the teeth.  Let's see some terrorist try something there.  I would feel vastly more comforted if our American airports were teeming with armed military types.  Bring on the Uzis. Forget the patting down of random passengers, none of whom are from Islamic countries where terrorism is celebrated and encouraged.  Mostly, from what I can tell, they are white-haired grannies from Cleveland, or six month pregnant blond married women from Tucson.  PROFILE, people.  Seriously.
I haven't been back to Europe since that ill-fated trip in 2001.  I don't regret going, for my family came from Scotland and I have always felt such an affinity for the British.  Granted, you don't see nearly as many British people in London as you do Indians, Somalis, Arabs, Chinese, etc., etc.  But you still get the feeling that we are kin.
And one more word about how it was all handled.  London was a target too, but the FAA grounded the flights all over the world so fast that it thwarted the plan to make London part of the plot.  God knows what else was thwarted.  Once in a while even a blind pig finds a truffle.
My message is this.  I am sick and tired of Obama and his terminal naivity in the face of such colossal evil as we are facing in Islamic terrorism and fascism.  I am sick of him and his racist, anti-American megalomania.  He is hopelessly inept, and if I hear one more person say he is SMART I think my head will truly explode.  He is NOT smart.  He is a creation of the media, out of whole cloth.  He is incompetent, egomaniacal, racist, and, as I keep telling everyone, stupid.  He cannot say three words without a teleprompter, and even when he has one he still doesn't say ANYTHING of substance.  Except, once in a while, a bit of Marxist dogma.  Yikes, is that what you lemmings have been waiting for?  Well, I guess, yeah.
Today my husband talked to another brother-in-law in Berlin.  Asked what the Germans REALLY thought about Obama's visit to Berlin, he said they were not much impressed with a guy who goes around acting like he has already been elected.  Once again, the mainstream media has told you what the Germans thought and you are supposed to buy it, hook, line and sinker.  Don't.  He is a media creation.  There is nothing to him.
But do remember September 11, 2001.  Obama is determined to remove any and all defenses that the United States has at its disposal at the moment, and to prevent any future defense plans from coming to fruition.  He is so demented, he thinks he can TALK the evil in the world into being GOOD.  It's possible he could bore them to death, but I don't think we can count on that.  McCain is not my cup of tea, he is not a Conservative, he is awful on a whole host of issues, but he is INFINITELY better than this sorry, silly teeny bopper of a candidate.  Vote for life--OURS, as well as those of the full term infants Obama is more than willing to see murdered in the name of "choice."
        Don't forget......
