Hey, King of the World: LISTEN UP!

I didn't listen to the speech, but I did read parts of it here on TownHall.  It does seem that Obama sees himself as a world leader (that's rich!) rather than an American president.  But I think he is woefully lacking in any concept of what America actually is, and therefore he has decided that HE should be ONE to dictate how it WILL be.  Not so fast, Slick.
Does he think that "equality" is what America is all about? Let me tell you, Mr. Obama, that that is not the case.  Our Founders did not profess their willingness to die for "equality."  They came here and dedicated themselves, risked everything they had--even their lives and those of their families--for one ideal:  FREEDOM.  That statue in New York Harbor is not "Lady Equality."  It is Lady Liberty.  Freedom is the core value of America, because we believe that our CREATOR (not you) has bestowed on us certain rights, and that we must be free to exercise those rights.  Striving for equality means curtailing the freedom of the population so that the government can artifcially manipulate the economic situation of the country.  You know, that "redistribution" thing.  No, no, and NO.
Does he think that immigrants--my husband, for one--came here to pursue "equality?"  They came here to have the freedom to work hard, use their brains and skills, and to pursue HAPPINESS.  That's PURSUE, not have the government try to give it to them.  Governments can't give people happiness, they can only allow the people the freedom to strive for it on their own--or not.  In the real world that has been America, of course not everyone has the same things as everyone else.  People are all different, with different gifts, talents, ambitions, needs, wants and levels of intelligence and education.  That's real life!  The best, the very best part of being an American is that if you live in less than ideal circumstances, you have the freedom to do something to change that, within only the bounds of your own limitations.  And here's the thing: people do have limitations.  The government cannot alleviate differences in abilites and intelligence, and certainly not in motivation.  In fact, government might be the single best way to kill motivation.  If it keeps telling the citizens (and the illegals!) that it will take care of them, people just might lose the desire to make it on their own.  Can any of you college students think of any countries where that's happened?  Hmm?  Do you know what type of government those countries might have had?
What do you want for us, you who would be king?  Do you want us to all be the same?  Dress the same, drive the same car, eat the same food, make the same amount of money and spend it the same way, THINK the same?  That's not us, that's China.  Well, without the car.  In MY country, there are rich people, poor people, people in between in all sorts of circumstances.  That is freedom.  Try your best, use your talents and brains, take care of yourself and your family, treasure the freedom that men fought and died for, read the ACTUAL history of the founding of this, the greatest country ever to exist on this planet (yes I know, it isn't perfect), and stop thinking of the government as the nanny, the daddy, the money tree, the be-all and end-all.  It isn't.  Reagan was right, it IS the problem.  If you want to live in a socialist world, go live where my in-laws do--in Europe.  See how "equal" you'll be there.  We don't really want to have nothing, equally, because the government took it all so it could be "redistributed."  The only fix for America is AMERICA--the people.  If they lose their will to BE Americans and do what Americans have always done, then we are truly lost.
The majority of Americans don't care about the "world," what it thinks of us, what it wants from us.  We'd like LESS to do with the rest of the world, not more.  We have no apologies to make for anything.  I personally would like to stop all foreign aid to everyone but Israel.  And that 50 billion President Bush earmarked for AIDS in Africa--I'd like it back, every dime.  It should be up to individuals to be charitable, not the government.  Americans can decide for themselves what to donate their hard-earned money for.  Government needs to stay out of it and let us keep what we earn.  Get rid of the dead weight--the Department if Education comes to mind-- and go back to fiscal conservatism and individual responsibility and pride.
None of which sounds like Obama's intentions, does it?  Mr. World needs to be hauled back to reality and told in no uncertain terms that FREEDOM is America, not equality.  Let us do what we do best:  work, earn, and decide for ourselves with whom we will share.  Any redistributing that needs doing, we'll do it ourselves, thank you.  Think he'll ever get it?  He and his worshippers?  Bets?

P.S. The only thing we need to be all the same on:  our common language.  That would be English.

Rendered Speechless by the Lemmings, or Bring on the Horse

I am just on the edge of despair, frankly.  I had thought, I really had, that the American voters would somehow figure it out, and of course a goodly number of  them have.  But have enough of them looked at Obama and shuddered in horror at what he represents?  No less than the end of America as we know it, and no chance to improve things in the way we always have--by picking ourselves up and working hard and taking RESPONSIBILITY for our lives and our country. Are there that many lemmings out there, diving over the cliff with Obama-bin-Biden?
No one with an ounce of decency or character has stepped up to tell us why we would want this fraud, this opaque politician with the shadiest of pasts and the shadiest of presents, to be put into the most powerful office in the world.  I'm pretty sure Caligula's horse did a better job as a Senator than Obama.  At least he may have voted something other than "present" occasionally.
At this point I am prepared to say:  bring on the horse.
People, come on, look into the guy just a bit below the surface, and you will see a frightening sight.  Marxism called "progressive" is still Marxism, and it has FAILED everywhere it has been tried.  Many, many millions of people have died under its heavy boot.  And no country has prospered under it.  Have you lost the American ethic, the American determination to make it and make it ON YOUR OWN?   One of my friends opined that everyone should read The Fall of the Roman Empire for a sneak peak at where we're headed.  I realize that the classics, history, etc. are not taught in public school any longer, but I'm sure a library or two would have it.  The Romans declined because they descended into decadence and didn't want to work.  They wanted the government to take care of them.  Hmmm.  It amuses me that Europe is slowly awakening to the degradation caused by socialism, while the American Left is waxing enthusiastic about it.  Europe is a dying continent.  Why would we want to emulate that?
My dear husband's belief that the election will turn on whether the stupid people now outnumber the smart people may still hold.  I know that college students overall are the dumbest of the dumb, thanks to their "progressive" education.  I have heard my ten-year-old granddaughter make more intelligent observations about Obama than most American students could muster.  She is not that impressed that he is supposedly black.  She is baffled as to why anyone would vote for someone based on skin color.  Yet we know that is happening--and we have heard some of the idiots saying so in the media.  Geraldine Ferraro rightly pointed out that Obama wouldn't be here if he were white.  And for her trouble she was branded a racist.  Welcome to the club Geraldine!  I can't stand her, but on this she was right.
So I am throwing down the challenge to America to prove me wrong once again, as you did in 2000 and 2004.  Prove to me that the polls are once again skewed to the point of being completely meaningless, as they were in 2004.  Prove to me that Bill Kristol, George Will, Kathleen Parker and other doomsayers are talking through their hats, as my mom would have said.  Prove to me that smart people have been reproducing at a faster pace than stupid people.  I am no McCain fan, but we can't let That One (the one Farrakhan called the Messiah this past weekend) take our country down the path of destruction.  And wait, I thought Louis was a Muslim.  Just like Obama.  I am becoming confused, and I don't think it's my age, advanced though it may be.  I need a sign.  Go out there and fight for America.  Deck a left-wing pollster, or e-mail your friends who need guidance, or register to vote three times like they do in Chicago (just kidding!)--but do SOMETHING to keep this disaster from happening on November 4.  McCain we can slap around and maybe even influence.  Once Obama has the reins, America is no more.
     Yeah.  Bring on the horse.

Dear Grandpa, Sorry About the Country...

Dear Grandpa, Uncle Vern and Uncle Jack,
Just wondering if you are all at peace eternally, or if you are spinning wildly in your graves at the turn your adopted country has taken.  I'm guessing the latter.
Now that we are about to possibly elect the first Muslim Communist as president of the United
States of America, I do feel the need to apologize to all my ancestors who chose this country for its magnificent values and for its freedom and opportunities.  Our founding fathers brought with them the firm belief that we had God-given rights and that they should fashion a Constitution that acknowledged those rights.  The government wasn't supposed to infringe on them, nor was it supposed to MAKE UP "rights" that were never mentioned nor intended.  We've come a long way, haven't we?  Toward bigger government, secularism, socialism, and now my personal favorite: Marxism redux.  As if it worked so splendidly before, all those times.  As if millions upon millions of people didn't die at its hands.
When your family came here from Scotland, I bet you were amazed at the bounty of America, even then.  Never has there been a MORE free country, with more opportunity and promise.  Of course, there were problems.  All have been dealt with.  Now we've created far worse problems by straying from the conservative principles that made us great.  We've let the left become too vocal and too entrenched in the mainstream media.  There is no pretense of fairness in the mainstream media, and even Fox News, which claims to be balanced, has to bend way over to give the left its due, simply because if it REALLY got its due, it would be banished to Europe where it belongs.
When you came here, there was a work ethic second to none.  You raised a family during the Great Depression, and the worst thing to you would have been having to go "on the dole."  When the newspaper for which you were the business manager shut down, you painted houses to support your four children.  Now we've imported all sorts of people who disdain our values and want a free lunch courtesy of the American taxpayer.  And we have some homegrown varieties of the same.  Instead of promoting hard work and ambition, the lefties who've taken over the Democrat party are promoting class envy and laziness.  That's Europe, not us.  Or at least it used to not be us.
I bet you are spinning over the change in your church too.  The Presbyterians have taken leave of their senses, or at least the leadership has.  Instead of blessing the Jews, as we were instructed to do by God, they are cursing them and fawning over the Palestinians.  There are a number of formerly mainstream Protestant churches who have fallen down similar holes.
As a child I seem to remember there was a bit of animosity among Protestants toward Catholics, until two of your grandchildren married two of them.  Everyone mellowed after that. You'd be happy to know that now it may be the Catholics, traditionally mostly Democrat, who will prevent our electing a Muslim Communist, because it turns out he is also a big proponent of infanticide and is unwilling to keep a baby born alive, after a botched abortion, alive!  Fancy that!  And he lies about it, or tries to, to boot.  I know how you'd feel about that.
You know I married a European whose family all still lives in Germany.  So I do have a handle on the differences between our societies.  And frankly, I have to come down on the side of traditional America.  It is rapidly disappearing, but I try to be hopeful we can bring it back, at least in part.  Starting with closing the borders to illegal, ungrateful, unhelpful and downright dangerous aliens.  Seems like a good place to start to me.
I sure miss you all.  You were men among men, not a wimpy metro-sexual among you.  You were men who could be counted on in a country that could be counted on, and was--by the whole world at times.  Personally, I don't think there has been nearly enough gratitude shown the United States by people whose a--es we saved, but then again we know the left is ungrateful, as all spoiled, immature brats generally are.
So Grandpa, I do apologize for the road the country is on at the moment.  I did my best to right it, sticking to my conservative principles and trying to reason with the loony left.  I raised three conservative kids and they are raising three, almost four, conservative grandkids.  I've discovered in my advancing age, though, that "reason" and "left" do not go together.  They are like pancakes with bacon instead of sausage, my mom--your daughter-- would say.  Mom was a little rigid on things that went together, but she knew gratitude and happiness did, and she sure recognized ingratitude when she saw it.  The left is awash in it, and aren't they just the unhappiest bunch you've ever seen?
Well, we'll try to keep the looming disaster from happening, but I can't promise anything.  Unfortunately, my parents' generation (the greatest one, according to Tom Brokaw), while nobly fighting a couple of wars and surviving the Depression, and making the most of what they had, were certainly not the greatest at parenting.  They were so happy to be able to offer their kids all the things they never had that they forgot to also TEACH them to be grateful, and independent, and hard-working, and to not expect anything from the government except national defense. I was lucky to be one of the exceptions to that trend, but many of my fellow baby boomers are the best educated yet dumbest, the owners of the most toys but the most ungrateful, the owners of the most material goods but the least blessed with a drop of common sense.  They have bought into, among other things, the feminist dogma of the man-haters, the global warming hoax, the PETA psychosis and the "all countries and societies are as good as all other countries and societies" mantra of the far, far, FAR left.  I know it's hard to believe how quickly this all happened.  I'm kind of glad you aren't here to see what has become of your beloved America, and if you CAN see any of it I sure hope it's filtered somehow.  I think MTV alone would have felled Grandma.
You all may have been the LAST great generation.  I am eternally grateful to have been your granddaughter.  Thank you for being a shining example of the people who came here for all the right reasons.  You met my husband before we were married, and I know you will be pleased to see that he also came here for the right reasons.  He also came legally, gratefully, and independently.  And he is a citizen of this country he fell in love with at eighteen.
Sorry, Grandpa, wish we could have kept the faith a little better, but we aren't giving up.  At least not unless the Muslim Communist actually gets elected.    Love, Jan

For Proud Liberal, Reality Bites

In my usual wordy way, I overshot the number of words allowed on a comment on one  of Star Parker's columns.  So I have to repeat it here, and I hope I remember at least some of what I wrote in the heat of the moment.  This is for you, Proud Liberal.
In the United States of America,  the term "traditional values" has always referred to Judeo-Christian values. Our founders brought them here, and they wanted to keep them.  After all, generations of humans embraced those values, and in America they built the best country that has ever existed on this planet.  Our laws are based on them.  Our values have made us who we are as a country.
Proud Liberal, you think Obama is going to be a peachy president because he knows the "reality" of people having differing opinions on...everything.  Governing by every individual's opinion of what should be is not governing at all.  And there we have anarchy.  Hardly ever works out well.  Our traditional values have stood the test of time, and cannot be thrown aside for the latest whim or new-age, feel-good philosophy.
I doubt that any conservative could top the lies told by liberals every time they open their mouths.  Because they lie, they assume everyone else does.  Proud Liberal is simply projecting his own behavior onto conservatives.  The "reality" of Obama is this: he is a Marxist,  he is not smart, he is not capable, he is not good, he is not Christian--the Muslims think he is one of them, and I think they are probably right--, he lies in every speech, he "changes" what he says depending on which group he is talking to, he is fluff with no substance. As Gertrude Stein famously said,  "There is no there, there."
Proud Liberal, you must grow up and face the actual reality of America.  Do you recall the phrase"E Pluribus Unum," found on our coins?  It means, "Out of Many, One."  It is, simply put, the American dream.  It means, if you come here from anywhere, we will embrace you--IF you want to be one of us.  America is unique in this quality.  The lurch toward multi-culturalism, diversity, and paying too close attention to every wacky, off-the-wall idea that makes its way into the public consciousness threatens our survival as a strong nation.
The whiny babies on the left want government to be their mama--and their sugar daddy--and if you want to know how that's working, look at Europe.  They'll be Muslim in a couple of decades, because they gave up their values, which were once somewhat similar to ours, for a secular selfishness.  Now they don't marry, don't reproduce, don't stand up for their countries, don't fight evil, don't insist that immigrants assimilate, and are descending more and more into depravity and sloth.
We really don't want that here.  John McCain said that it isn't the American way to envy the rich and want to take their money away from them.  The American way is to want to JOIN them, and to work hard and make it on our own.  Americans have always had common values, a common language, common goals: the Ten Commandments, English, and equal opportunity (NOT equal outcome) for all.  Those are the reasons so many have come here from everywhere else, to take advantage of all America has to offer.  YOU must face reality, Proud Liberal, and it is this: in our country at least, man is not the final authority.  God is.  That is how we want it to be. Over 80% of Americans say they believe in God--and that means the Judeo-Christian God who is the author of our values and morals, and from whom our blessings--and our RIGHTS--come. THAT is reality, and if for you it bites, for me it sings.

Handling Michelle

I didn't listen to Michelle Obama's speech. I was busy cleaning the oven.  Or maybe weeding the garden.  But I have my trusty friend Mary Sue to give me the highlights.  Her take: "Michelle has obviously been handled."  Yes.  I understand she now loves America.  I wonder whether those words just about stuck in her craw.  I think she was told in no uncertain terms what to say, what NOT to say, and the consequences of straying outside the lines the handlers drew around her.  I hear that so far, no "bounce" has occurred for Osama since the convention/circus started.  My fondest hope is that after the self-proclaimed messiah gives his rehearsed, robotic, straight-off-the-teleprompter message, the expected bounce will be as flat as a squashed Burrito for Obama.
I think the loony lefties have underestimated the impact that Obama's lame response to Rick Warren on the life issue is going to have on Catholics especially.  My Catholic friends and relatives simply cannot get past a man's refusal to say what everyone knows: the human fetus is alive and it is human.  His prior comments on the Born Alive Infant Protection Act are even more startling, and caused one of my long-time Democrat Catholic friends to say that he is evil.  WHY wouldn't ANYONE say, "Well absolutely, if a baby survives a botched abortion, we'll pull out all the stops, we'll save that baby at any cost, and he or she will have a home with a family who will love him or her."
I am not on the extreme right on abortion.  I know that the baby is alive from conception, but it is not viable in the first three months, and I am willing, though I hate it, to leave the decision to the pregnant woman and her doctor (NOT the Supreme Court, Congress or any politician).  After that, however, when the fetus is sensate and it is not a simple D & C anymore, well Lady, it's too late.  Make up your mind early, or have the baby and give it up for adoption. I
was a Labor and Delivery Nurse for years.  How any doctor or nurse (or a pregnant woman, for God's sake) can try to kill a viable baby is absolutely beyond me.  There is NEVER a reason to kill the baby to "save the mother's life."  Or to save the mother's health.  The pro-abortion people get around that by saying that the woman's MENTAL health will be affected if she has a live baby (?!). What happens to her mental health if she kills a full term infant?  I can only conclude, as my friend did about Obama, that she is evil if she can somehow justify that.
But back to Michelle.  Perhaps she should have been handled earlier, perhaps her speech railing against that same bill to protect a born-alive baby should have been squelched before it ever "drew breath."  But it's out there, and she and her bumble-brain husband are going to ride this train to the bitter end.  It will be tough, with the mainstream media busily covering up all the horrors of the Obamas, but we must get the word out as to what these two are really about.
The total lack of qualifications to be President and Commander-in-Chief aside, the issues of character, their associations with terrorists, crooks and who knows what else, the lying, the refusal to answer a simple question in any coherent way, the megalomania (I truly think he believes he is the Second Coming), the shady real estate deals are all fine reasons to discard this phony.   I am no McCain fan, but Obama isn't fit to lick his boots.  I will vote for McCain for one reason: someone has to stop this madness.  There has never been, in my lifetime, a more left-wing or a less qualified candidate for the highest office of the greatest country ever to exist on earth.  Michelle, you and B.O. don't love this country. You want to destroy it, from the inside out.  You will be worse for us than any foreign enemy could be.  You have NO new ideas, just the same old Marxist drivel that has produced such disastrous totalitarian regimes over the decades.  Your only "change" will be to ruin a country which has been a beacon to the world since its inception.  Yes, we have made errors.  And then we fixed them, at great cost to us all.  The "huddled masses, yearning to breathe free" have wanted to come here, and still do, because we ARE the best country with the best opportunities in the world.  How come Kobe Bryant knows that, but you don't?  I would rather have HIM for President.
Though our moral compass is constantly being hammered by the lefties with their sick Hollywood fetish and their secular garbage, we still have a Judeo-Christian value system that will, I hope, sustain us.  And perhaps, if we get rid of you and yours this November, we can start the pendulum swinging the other way.  For the sake of future generations, I pray that John McCain, with all his flaws (he IS getting better in some ways), will defeat you soundly.  And that you will then go away. PLEASE go away.  Handled or not, Michelle and her husband are two of the scariest people ever to try to control, oops, I mean "lead" us.

Reprieve from the Execution

I am reading a number of blog posts dealing with Obama and his infanticidal ways.  Good.  Let's make sure the country knows just what kind of being might be elected if we don't wake people up.  There is no logical reason to vote for Obama and that windbag Biden--how many times has he tried to run himself?  Always failed, but never got tired of hearing his own voice drone on about his favorite subject: him.  And is he going to try to call himself a Catholic?  He is pro-choice and running with a man who thinks killing babies already born in spite of efforts to destroy them is A-OK.
Even convicted murderers condemned to die, if they survive their execution, are not then bludgeoned to death or shot.  Or left in some closet with no food or water to die on their own.  Good grief.  I cannot believe I have to write this.  Where are the Christian, Catholic, and Jewish leaders, as well as congregants?  Can you honestly vote for this evil man and his equally evil wife? Because it's a sure thing you'll have them both running your life.  Biden is a joke, but he's a bad joke.  We have heard enough of his blathering over the long, LONG years of his Senate "career." None of us needs to hear one more inane word from him.  But you had all better be listening VERY closely to what comes out of Obama's mouth.  It is horrifying, when you can actually understand what he says.
We, the People, must reject this amoral party's platform of death, communist dogma, climate change crap, sky-high taxes, and the Big Nanny Government "taking care of" the masses and telling us how to live every facet of our lives.  One of the blogs mentioned the famous quote about how free societies don't last, because once the affluence comes, people become selfish and lazy and want more, more, more given to them--leading eventually to a totalitarian society.  I hope America proves to be the exception to the rule mentioned in that quote--that democracies last about 200 years, and then the cycle begins that leads to complete LOSS of freedom.
Give the babies a reprieve, give the United States of America a reprieve.  Go to the polls, and kick this disgraceful candidate to the curb.

Yay Kobe! But Boo Team America and NBC

I wrote a post about the lack of appreciation for our military at the Olympics, and I still have heard not a single mention of them and their heroic activity on our behalf.  I feel so sad for the miltary people in Iraq and Afghanistan who no doubt watched the Olympics and waited in vain for a single word praising their bravery and dedication to us.  Pathetic.
I am no fan of Kobe Bryant, given his past antics, but I am supremely happy that he articulated his pride and joy in America and the opportunities it offers us.  He sounded patriotic and appreciative.  Namby pamby Chris Collinsworth's question aside ("Is that a cool thing to say in this day and age?" or something similarly insipid), it was a sweet moment in an otherwise anti-American atmosphere, where Chinese cheating is ignored and ten-year-olds are being passed off as 16-year-olds, and no one cares.
Thanks Kobe!  You are right about this country.  Don't let anyone tell you differently.

The Burden of the Baby

Obama's reply to Rick Warren regarding when babies should be given human rights was just precious, wasn't it?  It's above his pay grade to answer it, ho ho, what a sense of humor.  My Catholic and other Christian friends and family, do we need more?
Well, in case we do, here it is.  Asked a while ago about saving the lives of babies who survive attempted abortions, Obama waxed eloquent on what a "burden" it would be to have to "call in a second doctor to assess the situation" and apparently to deal with it. Oh my, that WOULD be a trial.
As a former Labor and Delivery nurse, I can actually set Osama's mind at ease.  Here it is, B.O.:  you don't need another doctor to come in and say, "yep, that kid's alive all right!"  Any doctor who can try to kill a full term baby, or a baby at any stage of viability for that matter, can make that assessment all by him or herself!  Doctor Whoever can not only determine that the baby is in fact alive, but can take steps to see that he or she stays that way.  Now granted, that may be a burder to SOMEONE who wished for a different outcome, but let's not pretend that it is because another doctor might be called in.
It is positively gruesome to hear this idiot talk about his well-known, if now denied, position on who is actually being burdened here.  I would say it would be the BABY, living, breathing, able to survive on its own outside the womb, yet treated as so much medical waste and consigned to the soiled utility room,  the incinerator, or wherever else these creative killers decide to put it.  The first thing a baby wants when he or she enters the world is cuddling and warmth and a breast to suckle.  I truly cannot imagine ANYONE, short of the truly evil,  who would deny him or her that basic comfort and the chance for a life with people (one of the many thousands of couples wishing to adopt, for instance) who will love him or her with all  their hearts.
The more we see of Obama, the more we must call him what he is.  Marxist, naive, inexperienced, megalomaniacal, immoral--or amoral, self-aggrandizing, and my personal favorite: a consummate liar of the first order. He is trying mightily to deny the above statements, but I HEARD him say it, and it is obvious from the way he has voted that he has no concern for, no respect for, no empathy for the most helpless and vulnerable among us. Yet he tries to spout Bilbical quotes about "the least of these...."  Who is he talking about?!
He is NOT smart.  He is NOT smooth (just LISTEN to him without a teleprompter; he is totally out of his element and cannot string three words together to make a coherent statement).  People are slowly waking up and actually paying attention to this clown, and I hope that continues until McCain--who was not my first choice and would not be today, though he is getting better--blows him away in a landslide in November.  That this oaf would presume to become the leader of the greatest and most complex nation on earth is the height of pomposity.  For Obama, par for the course.
I trust all Christians and Jews, and all people with any moral sense at all, will reject this potential disaster for our country.
I am not going to mention Obama's half brother living in a 6 x 9 foot hut in Africa.  Oops.

"The Military is at War, America is at the Mall"...or the Olympics, Apparently

I think it is unseemly for President Bush to be at the Olympics, frolicking with the creepy Chinese president and beaming all over the place.  I don't know whose quote I used for my post title, but it is certainly true.  I've heard no mention of our military from the blatherers at the Olympics--granted, I'm not watching it all--and am I surprised?  Well, no, it's NBC after all, but it would have been a fine thing to hear President Bush say,  "I cannot in good conscience attend the Olympics in a country with the appalling human rights record that China has, nor can I even begin to find enjoyment in such frivolous pursuits when our brave men and women of the U.S. military are engaged in the dangerous and noble work of protecting our country from harm and trying to rid the world of terrorism."  Wouldn't that have been something?  Of course, it'd also be fine if he said, "Because of China's alarming attempts to build its military might on our dime, and its refusal to be accountable for all the harm it does its own citizens, as well as the harm it means to do us, we have decided not to buy another poisonous toy or cheap piece of crap from that country. Starting NOW."
Wake up America.  While our fight with the terrorists is easier to see, the fight with China may turn out to be infinitely more serious.  They are about to own us, if they don't already, and the first thing they want to do when they feel they can is to squash us like a big fat bug.  They'll have no qualms about it either, for they are truly "Godless communists," another quote whose author I can't remember, and as such have no moral compass to guide them.  They will do whatever it takes, and kill whoever gets in their way.  WE are funding their goals by buying their garbage and pretending it's just about "trade."  Shame on us, and by "us" I mean our government.  We have no real control over what they do, but we could shut down the switchboard again if we all got busy and called, e-mailed, wrote letters and faxed the do-nothing-useful-Congress and told them what we think and what we want.
I don't know why anyone would join our military, considering the lack of respect the media and our government, and about half the citizens, have for them.  I don't know why anyone would join the Border Patrol either, since one can go to prison for doing one's job.  But these amazing people still DO join, still DO want to defend and protect us, and perform their tasks with enthusiasm and grit.  You'd think the President of their country, and the cowardly media drones, could manage to pay a bit of homage to that.

The Big Lies About the "Cervical Cancer Vaccine"

The commercials for the "cervical cancer vaccine" make me cringe.  The misinformation campaign is in full swing, and apparently people are buying it.  Makes one reminisce about that old saw: there's a sucker born every minute.  Must be true, if we judge by this item.  And of course, there's the Obamamania.  Suckers, every one of the lemmings slobbering over him.
           But I digress.
The makers of this drug are dishonest and any parent who subjects a young daughter (they'd like to vaccinate 9 year olds) to this is both foolish and abusive.  NO ONE knows what the long term effects of this drug will be.  And it is NOT a CANCER VACCINE.  It is a sexually transmitted disease vaccine.  It is supposed to protect against several types of HPV virus--genital warts, to put it more appetizingly.  The main thing to be aware of is that if one's daughter is not promiscuous and does not engage in risky sexual behavior (at NINE?) she is not particularly likely to acquire this lovely disease.  It IS true that a large number of cases of cervical cancer are the result of HPV, but wouldn't parents be sending a better message if they simply teach their daughters the facts and not just shoot them full of some drug, before they even reach puberty, that may cause them harm later on?  What are we telling these children?  According to Planned Parenthood's web site for teens, STDs are just a fact of life!  "Over half of us will get one at some time!"  Hey kids, don't sweat it!  Recreational sex is GREAT--and those STDs, well they just make you one of the gang.  Over HALF of us?  Huh?
I loved Kathryn Jean Lopez' column on the disgusting video production of PP, "Take Care Down There."  "Crass" doesn't really do it justice though.  It is so pathetic that PP and the secular lefties are unaware that kids are actually interested in something other than cheap, meaningless sex.  Because THEY aren't, they assume no one is.
I'm always hearing that abstinence education doesn't work, but it MUST, because that's all we had when I was young, and only two girls in my high school got pregnant in the four years I was there.  Abortion wasn't legal and birth control wasn't available to KIDS, so I have to assume most of us were abstinent.  Both girls who did get pregnant married the guy, and one is still married to him some 40 years later.  It would seem that assuming most teens will NOT have sex would be more effective than telling them they WILL have it, and to just suck it up with the STDs and all, not to mention the empty feelings, the depression, the shame of being dumped by the person who screwed you last night and then told all his friends--no big deal!  And get that vaccine, so you can just continue to "hook up" and pretend it's about freedom and fun.
Now for those of you who have any doubts about how this sick culture of irresponsibility and demeaning behavior is hurting our kids, please read the book "Unprotected."  My copy lists the author as Anonymous, though I believe she has now allowed her name to be on later copies. I'm sure you can get it on Amazon.  It is a wake up call for parents and teens alike.  We, especially women, but men are negatively affected too, are not meant to use sex as casual entertainment. No vaccine can protect against the emotional trauma this attitude causes.  And apparently the vaccine doesn't protect against ALL strains of HPV.  Hmm, I guess you just hope you get lucky and are exposed to one of the strains that it MAY protect against.  Nothing is 100% effective--except abstinence.  Parents--don't take the lazy way out.  Tackle the tough issue of the sexualized cesspool our kids are swimming in, and TEACH them, provide them with values and allow them to be CHILDREN, innocent for as long as possible and then educated about the real facts and consequences of behavior.

Stop With the "Hitler" Crap!

I am seriously tired of hearing Adolph Hitler being compared to George Bush, and now there is a new one--a local issue, but involving someone many people across the country have heard of:  Sheriff Joe Arpaio, the "toughest sheriff in America," of Maricopa County, AZ.  Sheriff Joe has been of late doing something scandalous. He and his deputies have been arresting illegal aliens and putting them in jail. I know, I know.  Shocking.
Because of this behavior, the Mayor of Phoenix, Goofy Phil Gordon, has been
reduced to spluttering indignantly at Sheriff Joe's nerve. It seems to be interfering with Gordon's fervent desire to be the Mayor of the number one Sanctuary City in America.
And now we have been subjected to a "column" written in a local, neighborhood type paper, calling Joe Arpaio our "Little Hitler," and comparing his rounding up of illegals to Hitler's Brown Shirts coming into Jewish neighborhoods to pull Jews from their homes and deport them, in his words, "to the afterlife." This making light of the Holocaust has now caused ME to be reduced to spluttering indignantly. I have written a scathing rebuttal to that paper, and the editor has already told me he plans to print it.  Now I am going to share with you some of what I told him, and anyone else who is flinging the unholy name of Hitler around with abandon.
The Left is particularly fond of this type of unfettered flinging. It is easy for them to hate a good man, for they know they will pay no price whatsoever for any evil that spews from their lips. I agree with George Bush on almost nothing, because I am a Conservative for the most part, and he is not.  But there is nothing about him that lends itself to a comparison to Hilter. The Left is fond of this type of hyperbole, however, because they are clueless as to what it is really like to live under a dictator bent on destroying everyone for whom he has disdain.  It is safe, here in America, to call President Bush names and make up the most outrageous lies about him.  No one is going to kill you for it, or haul you off to prison.
My husband was born in West Prussia, now Poland, in 1941. He lived in East Berlin and then fled to West Berlin as a small child. He can attest to the ravages caused by Hitler, and the eternal shame of being a German in the aftermath of the Holocaust. He is an American citizen now, and though he also disagrees with much of what George Bush has done as President, it pains him to hear ANYONE compared to Hitler. There is no one who CAN be compared to Hitler. There are other evil beings, to be sure, but he is unique. Kim Jong Il, Saddam Hussein, Stalin--all right up there, but I think Hitler stills reigns supreme as Evil Incarnate.
I must request that you nutty lefties educate yourselves on the history of WWII.  I realize that public schools do not really teach it accurately anymore.  Revisionist history abounds in textbooks throughout our country.  So I have a reading list for you. Some of these are very old books, but I bet you can find them on good old Amazon.
Start with the two volumes of Victor Klemperer's diaries of the Nazi years, "I Will Bear Witness," which cover the years from 1939 through 1945. Professor Klemperer was a Jew married to an Aryan (the only reason he survived), living in Dresden. Reading someone's diary is very different from reading a later wrap-up of the events that occurred over a period of time.  You live almost every day with him, his wife, their neighbors and friends. You feel the desperation and fear, experience the near-starvation, mourn the loss of all the things that make life worth living--his job, home, health, and of course, people he loved. These two books will pull you into Life with Hitler with startling clarity.
Years ago, a friend gave me a battered paperback called "Treblinka."  It was published in the 1960s, and may be out of print, but once again--check Amazon. It is worth searching for, though it is not for the faint-hearted. I suspect few on the Left will be able to get through it. They have a collective aversion to confronting REAL evil, preferring instead to label George Bush, second-hand smoke, SUVs, and climate change as their evils. They bury their heads in the sand and think that Islamic terror is really just a response to the many evils WE perpetrate on the world. As I said in a previous post, the world is upside down and inside out. Good is bad, black is white. If one can read all of "Treblinka," one will have a clearer picture of what evil REALLY is, as well as what true courage is. Here's a clue: it ISN'T bravely shouting conservative speakers off podiums at a university.
Another book well worth reading is the story of a young American G.I. who was part of the company that liberated one of Hitler's concentration camps. Seared into my mind forever, though it has been a while since I read it, was the soldier's description of stumbling through the camp, desperately searching for someone, anyone, who might still be alive. He came across a jumble of people,I believe it was in an old train car, and saw a mother with a baby at her breast. At last, he thought, there must be survivors! But no, both of them were dead, the baby's little mouth still attached to the mother's nipple.  It nearly did him in. Me too. The book is "Where the Birds Never Sing," by Jack Sacco.
I think this tendency to invoke pure evil from the past to smear people we are put out with in the present must stop. It cheapens the suffering of so many, and insults the memory of their unspeakable terror and torture. I can only attribute it to cowardice and the refusal to step up and identify the real evils of today, and take them on.  Here's another clue: George Bush isn't one of them. Neither is Sheriff Joe.
On this Memorial Day weekend, take time out from shopping or barbecuing to reflect on the Americans who gave their lives to save the world from Hitler and his allies, all bent on destroying and conquering Europe, Asia, eventually us--the world.  Our veterans and our current military deserve our most heartfelt thanks and praise, for who else stands between us and the evil that is out there today? Not, I think, the Loony Left.
If further reading is sounding good to you, try "The Commandant of Auschwitz." I read it in high school, in the 1960s, so it may be hard to find as well, but search on. It will be worth it.  We must understand what has occurred in the past so that we can prevent it in the future. Refusing to face evil, pandering to evil, pacifying evil, cuddling up to evil, pretending evil is actually good, have never, ever made evil go away. Leave Hitler on the ash heap of history, but make sure you KNOW that history.
