My friend Benjamin wants to know if I am in favor of diversity. Here's my answer: not as defined by the lefties. Diversity means separating the races, maintaining the cultures of origin of people who come here--no assimilation allowed--and honoring even the most horrific of practices of EVERY group EXCEPT Americans. They do not approve of diversity of opinion or thought, and indeed will shout down any attempt to express an opinion which differs from their radical leftwing dogma. Ask any conservative who has tried to speak on an American college campus how he or she was treated. This is one area where the difference is blatant: conservatives do not heckle or attempt to silence leftie speakers as lefties do to them, with very rare exceptions.( Don't DARE bring up Joe Wilson. He was not heckling, he was overwhelmed by the emotion of the moment--listening to the lies just got to be too much. You go Joe. You're a hero to many of us.) So diversity in this area is a joke. Lefties don't so much think as simply parrot the slogans and bumper stickers they have been indoctrinated to "feel" are somehow sacred. You disagree with them, you'll soon find out how "diverse" they want you to be. They do enjoy a bit of moral diversity of course--just so it doesn't include Judeo-Christian morality. Anything else is fine--atheism, islam, wicca, voodoo, satan worship, okay! But don't bring up that foundation of our nation, the Judeo-Christian value system.
Diversity, children, is not what made this country the unique, wonderful country that it is. You know that sloagan on our coins, E Pluribus Unum? Know what it means? It means, "out of many, one." It is in that phrase that our greatness, or former greatness, is found. We welcomed people from everywhere, and invited them to be AMERICANS. Until the left began to preach diversity, a person could come here from anywhere and BE one of us, truly one of us. No need to hyphenate. You might try that in some other country, but it won't happen the way it always happened here. We didn't care where you came from, or what you were before; if you wanted to be an American, and if you embraced our values and our way of life and our love of freedom, you were an American before you could say "I love capitalism!" Try that in, for instance, the Netherlands. You can move there all right, and live there, and even be a citizen, but you can't be "Dutch." Only the Dutch can be Dutch. Thanks Bruce Bawer.
I'm married to a man who came here at 18 from Germany with $40 in his pocket and very little English. In the years that followed, he worked his way through university, embraced the American dream, married a cute little American girl, became a citizen--and became an American. He would be the first to tell you that America opened its doors and invited him to come right in--and be ONE of us. Be with us. Be part of us. He didn't expect anyone to speak German to him, nor did he wish to remain a GERMAN in America. He is an American through and through, and though he still speaks German and visits his family in Germany, he is in no way a German-American. Diversity be damned. The left is the group which separates people by race, gender, class--you name it, they call it diversity and use it to divide and destroy. They hate this country and all it stands for, because it doesn't fit with their vision of utopia where everyone is the same as far as thought and dogma--but multicultural in any way which undermines America. A country which has no common values, common language, common goals is a country which has no hope of surviving for long. Someone once wrote that democracies, or republics in our case, do not last long because they destroy themselves from within. Spectacular success leads to spectacular apathy and laziness eventually, and the lessening of ambition and the desire to do for oneself and be an independent grown-up. America has certainly been spectacularly successful, and is now on the downward slide toward the pathetic society that Europe has become. The left is determined to destroy that which they don't understand, and have never understood. They are the educated, spectacularly ignorant vehicles of our eventual downfall. If conservatives don't stand up and if capitalism is allowed to disappear, America will disappear too, and a sad day for the universe that will be. I agree with Glen Beck that we should write our memories and thoughts about what our country was when we were young and as we grew up, so that our grandchildren will know how unique their country was. I did that once, in a blog post for my granddaughter. What failures we experienced we have dealt with and for the most part fixed. We were never perfect, but we were the best, by far the best, and I lament our demise.
If by diversity you mean the "cultural" expressions of the likes of Serena Williams, Kanye West, Al Sharpton,
illegal aliens who have refused to obey our laws and speak our language, Asian gangs, islamic terrorists amongst us, the lack of respect for AMERICA that is perpetrated by the left in the name of "diversity," when diversity is actually the last thing they really want, then nope, can't use it. When one of my friends retired from teaching after 25 years in public schools, she said that she had become weary of being told that some minority kid (take your pick) telling her to go f++k herself was a "cultural expression" and that to punish it would be to disrespect that culture. Remember ebonics? I do. Do you think any of this diversity garbage has made for a better society and a more civilized populace? Ha! If you think that, HA! I've been around just a tad too long to buy that load of, hmm, how can I put this in a civil fashion? Malarkey. How's that? Even my grandmother would approve. When I hear the lefties and the idiot RINOs carrying on over Joe Wilson's absolutely legitimate protest as he listened to B.O. lying his head off, I just have to laugh. When it comes to crass, low-class, uncivilized, vulgar behavior and rhetoric, NO ONE can top the left. Remember Jennifer What's Her Name saying on her TV show that she hoped someone would shoot Clarence Thomas in the head? That's civility for ya, leftie style. Diversity. Their version of diversity, I spit on.
