I wrote a post about the lack of appreciation for our military at the Olympics, and I still have heard not a single mention of them and their heroic activity on our behalf. I feel so sad for the miltary people in Iraq and Afghanistan who no doubt watched the Olympics and waited in vain for a single word praising their bravery and dedication to us. Pathetic.
I am no fan of Kobe Bryant, given his past antics, but I am supremely happy that he articulated his pride and joy in America and the opportunities it offers us. He sounded patriotic and appreciative. Namby pamby Chris Collinsworth's question aside ("Is that a cool thing to say in this day and age?" or something similarly insipid), it was a sweet moment in an otherwise anti-American atmosphere, where Chinese cheating is ignored and ten-year-olds are being passed off as 16-year-olds, and no one cares.
Thanks Kobe! You are right about this country. Don't let anyone tell you differently.
